The experience
Franciacortino's journey along the Franciacorta cycling routes continues with the Yellow Route, the Satèn itinerary. As always, preparation began by studying the official route on the Franciacorta Consortium website and on Komoot, then pedaling through the area to determine which alternatives would make the experience more enjoyable and safe.
The route crosses the territories of six municipalities—Iseo, Provaglio d'Iseo, Corte Franca, Cazzago San Martino, Adro, and Erbusco—drawing a continuous up and down between hills and vineyards, with views of the Prealps dominated by Monte Guglielmo.
During the test, carried out over several outings, some critical issues emerged in the official route: a change in traffic on Via Lovera (Adro), an awkward crossing of the provincial road XI towards Calino, the failure to include the picturesque Boschi area and the impossibility of accessing the Torbiere Reserve by bike from the Provaglio side.
For this reason, I propose tackling the route counterclockwise, a choice that makes the experience smoother, more panoramic, and safer.
The tour
The Yellow Route starts on Via per Rovato, near the Sassabanek swimming pools. From the start, you can choose between two alternatives, depending on your bike.
Variante Mountain Bike
By mountain bike, take Via Colombera, a quiet and scenic route overlooking the Torbiere Reserve. After crossing the main road, climb towards Cremignane and cross the road via the designated bike lane.
The route then skirts the reserve behind the Le Torbiere shopping center and continues towards Provaglio d'Iseo along a dirt road. By mountain bike, you can climb up to Via San Carlo, where a restored old farmhouse gives way to a small church. From here, a breathtaking view opens up: the Torbiere del Sebino Nature Reserve seen from above, Mount Cognolo, Monte Isola, and the entire amphitheater of the Prealps overlooking Lake Iseo.
Going down you return to via Stazione Nuova, rejoining the main route.
Racing Bike Variant
For those setting out on a road bike, we recommend taking the SP XI towards Iseo, exiting at the second roundabout and turning towards Provaglio d'Iseo. There's a short but pleasant climb that runs alongside the monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa, a great warm-up before continuing towards the Provaglio section and then towards Corte Franca.
Entering from Provaglio, you reach Timoline, following the road alongside the parish church, Piazza Franciacorta, and the Town Hall. Shortly after, you turn toward the Acqua Splash water park, cross the industrial area, and head toward Borgonato. The entrance to the village is spectacular: you can see the castle, the bell tower, and the church. The road descends and then climbs past iconic Franciacorta landmarks: Palazzo Lana and the Berlucchi winery, while on the left, the ancient Borgo San Vitale appears.
Leaving the village, you'll encounter two short ups and downs: the first leads to the cemetery hill, the second leads to the Calino valleys, where a narrow, nature-filled road climbs up to Via Torre. From here, take the turnoff to Boschi.
The detour to Boschi—about 3 km—is a recommended section: a scenic horseshoe through woods and vineyards, with views of the villages you've just passed and the direction you're about to take toward Adro. The section ends at the stop sign on Via Sala. Turn right and, after a kilometer, you'll reach Provincial Road XI. A little further ahead, a roundabout allows you to take Via Lovera, which is the second exit.
Via Lovera is one of Franciacorta's most iconic streets. Cycling along it means crossing a place where work, culture, and nature blend together to create beauty. At the beginning, you'll encounter Arnaldo Pomodoro's Solar Gate, a monumental bronze sculpture created in 1993 as the entrance to the Cà del Bosco winery. To the right, you can glimpse Sala Lake, while ahead, a panoramic road opens up with views all the way to Lake Iseo and the Alpine foothills.
At the end of the road, climb left towards Via Bellavista: from the ridge, a short detour to the right offers another view of Monte Guglielmo. The route continues past the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve, a place of Marian devotion dating back to the 16th century.
Returning to Corte Franca you pass Nigoline and Colombaro.
In Nigoline, you cross the historic center with Palazzo Monti della Corte, the sixteenth-century residence of the Monti family, and the church of San Martino.
The road leading to Colombaro runs alongside Monte Alto and crosses the town, exiting towards Clusane via Via Zenighe, near Palazzo Lana Moraschi, an elegant eighteenth-century villa.
The arrival in Clusane takes place near the Church of Cristo Re. Turn onto Via Risorgimento and take the third street on the right, following the Ciclovia della Cultura (Culture Cycle Route). This begins the final stretch of the tour towards Iseo, pedaling on a secondary road that passes through an area dotted with small lakes and green spaces. The route finally leads to Cremignane and returns to the starting point on Via Colombera, completing the tour loop.
