Rodengo Saiano – via Corneto

The tour.

The itinerary begins in Rodengo Saiano, on Via Brescia, near the first major point of historical interest: the Olivetan Abbey of San Nicola, a monastic complex founded in the 11th century and entrusted to the Olivetan Benedictine monks in 1446. Continuing towards the town center, you follow the entire Via Brescia, keeping in the direction of Ome and Monticelli Brusati. A little further on, to the right, you can admire the course of the Gandovere stream with the Parco del Frantoio of Rodengo Saiano; to the left, the village stretches out at the foot of Monte Delma. Upon reaching the first roundabout, take the second exit on the left and shortly after turn right onto Via Corneto, a quiet back road flanked by ancient walls leading to Villa Fenaroli, an elegant 18th-century residence. Before leaving Via Corneto to return to the main road, you will find the first water point: a fountain useful for anyone who, despite having covered less than three kilometers so far, may have forgotten to fill their bottle.

Monterotondo is the first hamlet of the municipality of Passirano reached by the route. You enter the village along Via per Monterotondo and turn onto Via San Giorgio, which overlooks the mountain of the same name. The following descent towards Passirano offers, on clear days, views that stretch as far as the city of Brescia. From vineyard to village and village to vineyard, the itinerary continues to Camignone, a hamlet distinguished by elegant residences and historic lanes, particularly along Via degli Eroi, between the parish church and the area of Camignone di Sotto. Right along this stretch, on the quiet Via Risorgimento, there is a convenient water point. From here, the route heads towards Passirano, skirting the central Piazza Europa before reaching the castle and joining the Bergamo–Brescia Cultural Cycle Route towards Paderno Franciacorta, the last town on the loop. Here, the route runs alongside the parish church before turning onto Via Trento towards Castegnato. After passing through the industrial area, a left turn onto a dirt road leads back to Rodengo Saiano, where the loop ends exactly where it began: at the Olivetan Abbey of San Nicola.
